CHEMTANE 2 DATA SHEET
U.S. Department of Transportation chemical concentrate classification No. = UN 1993 The blending can be done in a LPG bobtail truck equipped with a pump and a meter. For example, to blend 1,000 gallons of CHEMTANE 2 fuel gas, you can add 5 gallons of CHEMTANE 2 concentrate in the truck and then add 995 gallons of LPG/propane (199:1ratio). You then simply mix the final cutting fuel one complete turn over by using the truck%u2019s pump and metering system. (Details can be furnished.) Another method is to blend the final product in the 199:1 proportion in a bulk storage tank, using a recirculating pump to mix. From there you simply meter the blended finished product into a delivery truck for delivery to bulk customers, or into cylinders for cylinder delivery. Other benefits, for example, specifically on the acetylene gauges, there is a red line at 15 psi, which is the maximum psi acetylene can be used safely. The reason for this is that there is a danger of drawing acetone from the acetylene cylinder above 15 psi. Although a pressure setting of, say 5 psi, might be recommended for cutting 1-inch steel plate with CHEMTANE 2, you can operate with a much higher psi if required for a particular application. Acetylene must not be used at depths greater than approximately 20 ft., because its maximum safe operating pressure is 15 psi. With CHEMTANE 2, you can cut at depths to which divers can descend and perform satisfactorily, using pressures up to fuel gauge limits or tank pressure. With acetylene, up to 20% is trapped in the cylinder and can thus never be used. This factor becomes important when comparing cylinder quantities of acetylene vs. CHEMTANE 2. Another factor to consider is production. Acetylene cuts 1-inch steel at 13-14 inches per minute. CHEMTANE 2 cuts 1-inch steel at 20 inches per minute. Cutting with CHEMTANE 2 consumes approximately the same oxygen when performing the same task as acetylene, but CHEMTANE 2 consumes 42% less oxygen than when that same cutting task is performed with propane. |
